Before I started training at Pineapple I was working in a desk bound job and finding it very difficult to find the time and motivation to exercise. I was mentally tired, physically tired and had developed a shoulder injury due to the job and not moving my body enough. I started to pile on weight and developed a sluggish and stagnant lymphatic system. During the two years of COVID lock downs, doing a sanitary job, a shoulder injury and transitioning to post menopause I was struggling. I was feeling fatigued, I was experiencing full body aches and pains, a heart racing heart and hot flushes. This all came upon me very quickly. This was my first desk job and my body was and still does not like it. I was becoming more and more isolated as I am pretty new to Newcastle and with two years of my time here being in lockdown, my mental and emotional wellbeing was on the decline. I missed connecting with family and friends and I knew I needed to make some big changes in various areas of my life once the world opened up again. As soon as we came out of lockdown I joined Pineapple. Becoming a part of the Pineapple tribe was the change I needed!
My initial goal was to get out of bed earlier a few mornings a week and get into nature (the beach). To move my body, build strength and get a little fitter, but most importantly I needed to have some fun and find some joy! I missed laughing and having fun. Due to distance I wasn’t connecting much with others, and I work in health, so whilst interesting there is not a lot of opportunity for fun and laughter. I was in search of people I could have a good time and a good laugh with! I was on the lookout for a community I could connect with. I feel like I found that in Pineapple!
What I like most about Pineapple is the welcoming and fun community. The coaches are all high vibe, supportive and encouraging. They have a wealth of knowledge and can adapt any workout to meet the needs of each individual. Pineapple offers various options to meet the goals of every woman. They take a holistic approach to each individual member's health and wellbeing, which include not just fitness goals but also diet, recipes and mental health tips and tricks. The Pineapple team always makes themselves available to chat if needed. BBB (dance class) could quite possibly be my favourite class but I also love Strong and Boxing! Ocean swims and coffee after outdoor classes is the icing on the cake! I love that yoga is complimentary for every member as the Pineapple team understands the importance and benefits of a regular stretch and release practice. Pineapple runs numerous challenges throughout the year to help members connect and achieve their goals, which are fun and encouraging. These are just some of the things that make Pineapple worthwhile.
The thing I have been most proud of myself for achieving is setting my alarm for 5.30am three to four times per week and showing up for myself. It is not easy but never have I regretted a pineapple workout and a chance to hang with the Pineapple crew! Now when I go back to Jervis Bay to visit my friends they say, “How good is Pineapple! I wish we had a Pineapple here. It looks like so much fun!” And I say “ Thank the lord for Pineapple”!! Joining BBB (dance class), never have I ever attempted a choreographed dance class! And as I was approaching 50, I never thought I would be doing this. But in my first week of Pineapple I wanted to try all of the classes as I was in search of new experiences and joy, so I landed in BBB! I have never looked back! Dancing is such a wonderful way to move the body, get the endorphins pumping and get the energy moving but the fun and laughter that is experienced in these classes with the hilarious Dance Mom Brittany and crew is priceless! I feel proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and embracing this new experience. Also, joining Pineapple has also given me the fire in my belly to make changes to my work situation. I have establish work that supports my health and wellbeing, whilst supporting others with theirs.
My next goal is to keep moving my body! To keep getting stronger and showing up for myself every day. After 50 and being post menopausal it can become harder to be motivated to keep going, to keep moving, to keep trying different things but I believe we can’t stop (if you don’t use it, you loose it), we have to keep going in order to feel well in the skin we’re in! I believe moving my body as I am with Pineapple, and with a balancing yoga practice, I am helping my body to balance my hormones adequately. I am feeling more energetic and motivated. I am feeling less aches and pains and am sleeping better. Getting up before 6am and going to bed before 10pm is helpful for my circadian rhythms, body, mind and general health. Joining Pineapple has been a great way to keep myself accountable and pivotal to maintaining this life changing routine. Also, helps with keeping alcohol to weekends. I love Pineapples 80/20 concept for food and alcohol. It keeps things easy yet accountable. All of this has been a game changer for my health and wellbeing over 50!
My advice to anyone who is wanting to get started at Pineapple but is feeling nervous/too unfit/old is? Don’t think, just do! It will be the best thing you could do for your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual self! Every woman deserves to feel healthy, confident, happy, fit, strong and connected to self and others, whilst having a whole lot of fun!!
